03 Apr New Domestic Violence refuge being built in the Sutherland Shire
The NSW Government is funding construction of a new refuge in the Shire for women escaping family domestic violence.
The new complex will be run by St Vincent de Paul Society and is designed to provide more than just accommodation, it will provide wrap around support services also. The complex will contain 6 self-contained one-bedroom units, with kitchenettes and bathrooms, and each unit will be pet friendly to enable families fleeing violence to take their beloved pets with them.
There will also be an expansion to the Staying Home Leaving Violence program as it enters the Shire, this initiative will enable victims of domestic and family violence to remain in their own homes, while the perpetrators will be removed, if the situation is safe to do so.
